The state of Oklahoma has amended their Medicare supplement regulations to allow a 60-day open enrollment period, beginning on an individual's birthday. The individual must currently be enrolled in Medicare supplement, with no gap in coverage greater than 90 days since initial enrollment. The individual may replace that policy with a new Medicare supplement policy with equal or lesser benefits.
We are in the process of updating our Underwriting Guidelines, e-App and compensation systems to support this new regulation and will send an update regarding the availability of these items next week. In the meantime, we ask that you submit paper applications.
As part of the application process, please provide documentation of current coverage, such as a policy schedule or statement of benefits, showing the plan type and the effective date of coverage.
In addition, please include a statement from the insurer verifying there has been no lapse in coverage greater than 90 days since the effective date of coverage. Applications can be submitted 30 days prior to the individual's birthday. Coverage will not be made effective prior to the individual's birthday or beyond 60 days from the application date.
Policies issued under the updated regulation will be paid as guaranteed issue.
