Humana Topic of the Week: Insulin Savings Program and Diabetic Testing Supplies

May 23, 2022

Insulin Savings Program (ISP) - Humana has expanded its participation in the Part D Senior Savings Model in many plans across the US. At Humana they call it the Insulin Savings Program. This program allows a reduced cost on select insulin where a member will be offered a stable $35 or less copay on a 30 day supply through the coverage gap. ISP is included in all states in the Humana Premier RX plan (PDP).  Currently the ISP benefit is not included in the MA/MAPD  plans in CT or MA, however if you’re selling across state lines this information could be useful.

In NY – ISP is offer on the following plans –

           H3533-001, H3533-006, H3533-013 – These are all HMO plans.

           H5970-015, H5970-001, H5970-018 – These are all PPO plans.

           S5552-005 – Premier PDP

In CT, MA, RI, VT

           S5884-149 – Premier PDP

The attached job aid will assist you with understand the program and how it works at a national level.

Diabetic Testing Supplies – The Diabetic testing supplies conversation can be very involved.  Most testing monitors are covered as DME in the evidence of coverage.  Using an in-network DME supplier is very important when looking to assist your member. You can search in-network DME partners on the Find-A-Doctor tool Physician Search - Humana.  Use the Medical tab as you would use for doctors.  Under category select all.  Under name, specialty, condition – type in "DME".  Select the durable medical equipment and medical supplies in the drop down.  This will give you a list of all in network DME supplies.

What a lot of agents don’t know is that Humana Pharmacy (CenterWell) does offer a unique opportunity to help your members.  There are 4 monitors along with their test strips and lancets that your members can get at a $0 cost share.
