Excellus BCBS WellNow Urgent Care Update

Update: WellNow Urgent Care

WellNow Urgent Care has made a decision to leave the Excellus BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS) provider network effective Monday, January 1, 2024.

While Excellus BCBS is disappointed by their decision, they are prepared to assist members with questions about their health benefits and options for care.

Assisting Members:

Excellus has taken several steps to ensure members are being assisted.

  • A microsite has been created to help members find options for care and they are being encouraged to visit ExcellusBCBS.com/CareOptions. The website includes: Details on why your primary care provider should usually be your first call for care; Information on accessing telehealth services; A list of in-network urgent care providers by county.
  • Members who have used WellNow within the past 12 months will receive a letter (PDF) shortly to notify them that WellNow is no longer participating in the network.
  • Also, a postcard (PDF) to those same members that includes a link to the Care Options microsite will be sent within the next week or so, educating them on how to access care.

As you know, members’ coverage for out-of-network care will depend on the type of health benefits they have. Members can log in to their online account to view plan coverage or call the Customer Care phone number on the back of their member card with questions.

If you have questions, feel free to reach out to your Broker Account Executive.

The information in this notice only impacts Excellus BCBS members receiving services within the 31-county service area. Your members receiving services in an area where another Blue Plan maintains a relationship with WellNow are not impacted.
