As part of UnitedHealthcare's ongoing commitment to compliance and clarity, they are refining their approach to National Producer Number (NPN) override usage, which refers to agents or solicitors submitting Marketplace applications using another agent’s or principal’s NPN. Beginning September 1, 2025, all agents will be required to use their own assigned NPN for all UnitedHealthcare Individual & Family Plan enrollments. This update will be reflected in 2026 contract amendments to contracted agencies and agents.
The use of NPN override has created challenges in tracking agent activity, managing complaints, and maintaining oversight. This refined approach is designed to enhance visibility, streamline reporting, and reinforce compliance—while continuing to support the success of valued agencies, agents, and solicitors.
