Berwick Hospital Closure Information from Geisinger

Berwick Hospital closure 

On July 15, Geisinger learned that Berwick Hospital filed a 90-day notice with the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PADOH) expressing their intent to close and reopen as a psychiatric and behavioral health facility. The plan has since been rejected by PADOH, and Berwick Hospital officials intend to resubmit a revised plan. Additionally, on July 22, three nearby clinics owned by Berwick Hospital abruptly closed with no notice to staff or patients.

GHP members in the Berwick area who need care can use our telemedicine services, including Geisinger’s on-demand virtual urgent care, and will still have access to care in the following locations:

• Primary care: Members can visit the Geisinger Berwick primary care site in Briar Creek as well as the Convenient Care across the street in the Giant Plaza. 
• Primary care physicians: Members can schedule appointments at Geisinger Berwick or other nearby Geisinger clinics in Bloomsburg, Nanticoke or Hazleton.
• Hospital/emergency care: Members can visit nearby hospitals and emergency rooms at Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital and Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
