UHC Update – South Carolina Med Supp Tobacco Use Rating Change
Important Update on Tobacco Use Rating for Agents Selling AARP® Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans in South Carolina
Effective January 31, 2017, consumers who reside in South Carolina and apply for an AARP® Medicare Supplement Plan, insured by UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company, during their Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period or qualify for Guaranteed Issue will pay the Non-Tobacco Rate regardless of whether they use tobacco products.
• Consumers who qualify for Guaranteed Issue or are in their Open Enrollment Period should not complete the tobacco usage question on the application. Be assured, that in no event will the tobacco usage response be considered for any consumers who qualify.
• Consumers who do not qualify for Guaranteed Issue and are not in their Open Enrollment Period must complete the tobacco usage question. This information will be used to determine which rate will apply.
The current 2017 AARP Medicare Supplement Insurance kits for South Carolina do not reflect this change. Please insert the attached flyer below into any 2017 South Carolina kits you may have in your inventory. Any South Carolina kits ordered on or after January 31, 2017, will include the flyer reflecting this change.
