|We are already about three weeks into the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) and wanted to share some insights and observations with you. For additional helpful information, please log into the SilverScript Agent Portal and review the new briefs displayed on our home page.
SilverScript Choice: continues to resonate in the marketplace
During the 2017 AEP, Medicare beneficiaries may want reassurance that SilverScript prescription drug plans compare favorably with other Part D plans. Two points to emphasize include:
$0 Deductible: SilverScript offers true $0 deductible plans (with the exception of SilverScript Choice in Alaska and Hawaii). Unlike other plans that may offer $0 deductible only on certain drug tiers that include generics or lower cost medications, SilverScript members won’t pay a deductible at all in 2017, regardless of what drugs they take. Members can have the peace of mind that comes along with a $0 deductible, beginning with their very first medication; and if something changes mid-year, they will still pay no deductible.
One low copay at EVERY network pharmacy: SilverScript Choice members ALWAYS pay the same copay at any of our 66,000+ nationwide network pharmacies for the same medication. They don’t have to go to a specific pharmacy for lower cost sharing, or worry about inconsistent copays or unexpected cost increases.
SilverScript Plus: a competitively-priced enhanced plan for Gap Choosers
If your client is a chooser who takes several drugs on a regular basis and is likely to reach the Coverage Gap in 2017, the cost-saving features of SilverScript Plus can provide outstanding overall value over the course of a plan year.
In addition to $0 deductible coverage (Plus plan not available in Alaska), nationwide pharmacy convenience, 90-day savings at mail/retail, free standard mail service deliveries and 24/7 Customer Care, key Plus plan selling points include
New lower premiums
Plus premiums are lower in 2017, making it an even better value for choosers who want enhanced Part D coverage from a leading Part D provider with an affordable premium
Preferred Pharmacy Savings
More than 36,000 preferred pharmacies across the U.S. offer Plus members the lowest copays to help them save on their medications every time they’re filled.
Tier 1 and 2 coverage in the Gap
Without Gap coverage, a beneficiary will pay much higher copays for their Tier 1 and 2 prescriptions until they leave the Gap. Plus coverage offers Tier 1 and 2 coverage that helps protect their savings while in the Gap.
Confirmed value through comparison shopping
To provide real-world competitive cost data, we recently compared sample medications (commonly used by people with Medicare Part D who reach the Coverage Gap) with other Part D plans across five regions at selected pharmacies. Our comparison revealed that
Ranks consistently in the top three in 10 out of 10 baskets.
Ranks #1 in each region when Walgreens is not included as a selected pharmacy.
Ranks either 2nd or 3rd in regions when Walgreens is included as a selected pharmacy.
SilverScript adds drugs to its 2017 formularies
You know that your clients can count on SilverScript for affordable Medicare Part D plans that are easier to use and offer extensive brand and generic drug coverage. What you may not know is that SilverScript continually negotiates with drug manufacturers to get the lowest costs for our valued members.
For 2017, we are pleased to announce that ongoing negotiations allow us to make the following updates to the SilverScript formularies:
A blood thinner used to help prevent clots from forming due to irregular heartbeat or after hip/knee replacement surgery, will be covered as a Tier 4 Non-Preferred Brand with Prior Authorization needed for new starts.
An agent used to treat chronic hepatitis C virus, will be added as a Tier 5 Specialty Medication.
NEXIUM® and NASONEX®
SilverScript will continue to cover both Nexium and Nasonex as a Tier 3 drug in 2017
Rosuvastatin is a generic alternative for Crestor®, and will be covered as a Tier 2 drug in 2017. As a lower-cost generic, Rosuvastatin may represent a significant savings opportunity for members who take Crestor®.
